As of November 20, 2013 we were able to steer $13,900 to the
Assistance League of SE MI – Operation School Bell project  because of 139 committed women!

Needy school children will shop for new coats, hats, gloves and clothing in a makeshift store–where all items are new and free–thanks to the donation from the 100 Women Who Care!  interesting donation to Operation School BellÒ and the Assistance LeagueÒ of Southeastern Michigan–from 136 women who are affiliated with a new charitable group called 100 Women Who Care – Greater Rochester.

Cindy Guerrieri, a 100 WWC member and a volunteer at the Assistance League of Southeastern Michigan, convinced the women that Operation School Bell project needed this donation to provide warm clothes and necessary supplies to needy school children in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties.

In existence since 1995, and having served over 20,000 local children so far, Operation School Bell sets up racks and shelves in school gymnasiums and allows each student to shop for the following new, unused items: a winter coat, hat and gloves, pants, shirts, underwear and socks, hygiene kit, book, duffel bag, and shoe voucher. “It is often the only ‘new’ clothing the children have ever received,” Guerrieri said. “And each child gets a personal shopper to help them find the right size and make good selections.”

Barb Bakker, who has experienced many Operation School Bell shopping extravaganzas, says the thrill never gets old. “We are helping families in need provide basic necessities to their children, and the children are treated to new school clothing, coats and mittens, and other personal items. They are always so excited and thankful to us. And, likewise, we are extremely grateful to the 100 Women Who Care for providing these necessary funds to keep our kids warm this winter.”
